GBT2025 Preston Delivers – A Hidden Gem Shines on the GBT Tour – And first win on the Tour this year for Mark Ball!
What a fantastic day we had at Preston Golf Club.
The penultimate stop on the GBT2025 Tour saw us arrive at the historic Preston Golf Club on Thursday, 27th August. This was the first time Preston has featured on the tour, and it didn’t disappoint. With its sweeping fairways, subtle undulations, and a course steeped in history, Preston provided the perfect stage for a day of competition, camaraderie, and business networking.
This event was particularly significant, with the Order of Merit finely poised and places in the top four — and therefore qualification for the prestigious Tour Final at Dundonald Links — still wide open. With the season-long battle in full swing, every shot mattered, and the tension was clear from the very first tee.
A Day Run to Perfection
In a rare change for the tour, Mark Brown, GBT’s founder, was absent for the first time in 11 years. The day was instead expertly managed by Dianne, Steve, and James, who ensured everything ran like clockwork. From player registrations to prize presentations, the event was handled with precision and warmth, reflecting the very spirit of the GBT community. The feedback from players was unanimous — Preston was an exceptional addition to the calendar, and the team’s hard work made the day truly memorable.

GBT2025 Davyhulme Winners
Winner: 🥇 Mark Ball – 42 Points
Mark, especially considering the 30-minute phone call I had with him prior to the event.

Runner Up: 🥈 Brian Boys – 41 Points
Brian is on the move – retakes order of merit lead!
Yet another fantastic score from our new OOM leader, Brian.
He has been in the top form all season. I can safely say that Brian will be at Dundonald Links for the GBT Final come October.

Nearest The Pin Winners
1st Hole – Martin Rayner
Straight out the gates, Martin meant business. A perfect tee shot set the tone for the day — cool, calculated, and right on target.
8th Hole – Michael Lythgoe
Michael showed his class. With a smooth swing and deadly accuracy, he left himself a tap-in range and continued to chip away in the OOM race. A proper statement shot.
12th Hole – Colin Elliott
The man who has featured on more nearest the pins throughout the season. If you’re going to talk the talk, you might as well walk the walk. Classy golf from Colin.
14th Hole – Paul Johnson
Paul reminded everyone why he’s a GBT favourite — threading the needle on one of the trickier par 3s. Ice in the veins and a touch of finesse late in the round. Not just a points machine, but a precision player too.
18th Hole Nearest the Pin in 2 – Matt Watts
Matt, two great shots, kick in birdie and takes the prize! Another solid round and can he make the final four!
All to Play For
With Preston complete, the GBT2025 Tour heads to Prestbury Golf Club on 18th September, sponsored by Taylor & Taylor. Prestbury, a Harry Colt-designed gem with dramatic elevation changes, will play host to the final event before the Tour Final. The last chance for players to cement their place in the Final Four is sure to bring both drama and excitement.
