GBT2025 Prestbury Delivers A Classic GBT Finish!
What a fantastic day we had at Prestbury Golf Club.
The
Our sixth visit to the magnificent Prestbury Golf Club reminded everyone why it remains a GBT Tour favourite and a permanent fixture in the Top 100 courses in England.
From the moment you arrive, the experience feels world-class.
Immaculate fairways and greens present a championship test that has hosted English Seniors Championships and Open Championship Regional Qualifying—and it shows. The course conditioning is so precise that European Tour professional David Horsey once described it as “virtually tour standard.”
The welcome is every bit as impressive as the layout. Prestbury’s team set the bar for service, with seamless organisation, outstanding catering, and a warm clubhouse atmosphere that makes the GBT community feel right at home.
And it’s not just about the 18 holes. The club’s 27-acre practice ground, complete with a purpose-built grass tee, short-game zones and an indoor teaching facility, is the envy of clubs nationwide—perfect for fine-tuning before tackling the course’s subtle elevation changes and lightning-fast greens.
After six visits, we can confidently say: Prestbury always delivers.
This event was particularly significant, with the Order of Merit finely poised and places in the top four — and therefore qualification for the prestigious Tour Final at Dundonald Links — still wide open. With the season-long battle in full swing, every shot mattered, and the tension was clear from the very first tee.

GBT2025 Prestbury Winners
Winner: 🥇 Andy Knight – 37 Points
A fantastic round of golf from Andy, especially in the tough conditions.
Andy was the only person to shoot under par and a well deserved 1st place finish.
Congratulations and well played Andy!
Runner Up: 🥈 Matt Watts – 36 Points (BB9)
Yet another podium finish for Matt this season.
Its been a great year for the the order of merit runner up.
Well played Matt
Third: 🥈 Steve Critchley – 36 Points (BB9)
And finally Critch has managed a podium finish this season.
Not his best year by his standards but I’m sure he will be back competing as usual in 2026.
Well played and congratulations, Steve
Guest Winner: Wayne Smith – 34 Points
Excellent round of golf from Wayne today.
Well played Wayne

Nearest The Pin Winners
4th Hole – Brian Boys
Brian lived up to his surname, sending a “boy-oh-boy” dart straight at the flag. A gentle draw that never left the pin—rumour has it the ball asked for a selfie with the cup on the way down.out the gates, .
7th Hole – Martin Rayner
Martin chose the scenic route: a towering shot that hung in the air so long someone suggested charging it rent. When it finally landed, it hopped once and stopped like it had brakes fitted.
10th Hole – Rob Firth
Rob produced a laser beam that barely seemed to rise above the tree line, slicing through the Prestbury breeze and parking itself inside tap-in range. Pure precision, pure mischief.
17th Hole – Timothy Roberts
With the wind swirling, Tim pulled a low-flighted 7-iron that cut through the gusts like a hot knife through butter, finishing just six feet from the cup. The gallery loved it; the flag was still shaking.

📊 Scorecard Breakdown
Looking across the full scoreboard:
-
Field Average – Just under 29 points across the 32-player field.
That’s well below the typical GBT event average of ~32–33 points, a clear sign of a course that punishes even small mistakes. -
Winning Score – 37 points (Andy Knight).
Only one player broke par, showing that par golf at Prestbury is a premium. -
Top Cluster – Four players on 36, five more between 33–34.
Indicates a classic “Prestbury squeeze”: steady players can hang around, but no one can really break free. -
Tough Middle Stretch – Groups teeing off after 12:15pm generally scored lower.
Afternoon breeze and firmer greens likely made approach shots and putting even trickier.
Why Prestbury Plays “Above Its Yardage”
-
Subtle Elevation Changes
Fairways tilt just enough to create awkward lies, even when you’ve found the short grass. -
Lightning-Fast Greens
Small targets and devilish slopes mean two-putts are never a given.
(Notice how even strong putters like Steve Critchley plateaued on the back nine.) -
Strategic Pin Positions
GBT organisers tucked several pins behind bunkers and near edges.
Scores of 22–28 from normally mid-30s players highlight how hard it was to attack. -
Wind Influence
The late-September breeze is notorious here. Gusts swirling through tree lines can turn a perfect club into a flyer.
