GBT2025 Bury Golf Club – Results & Highlights
Thursday 10th July 2025
Sponsored by Wilds
Another Scorcher at Bury – And a Homecoming Victory for a Two-Time Champ!
What a fantastic day we had at Bury Golf Club.
The sun blazed, the fairways baked, and the competition was as fierce as ever as the GBT2025 Tour rolled into town for our 8th event of the season.
Although the course showed signs of summer’s heat with a few dry patches, it absolutely delivered on character. Designed by the legendary Alister MacKenzie, Bury is a quirky, charming and deceptively tricky test of golf – and we loved every second of it.
With tight fairways, creative doglegs, raised tees and slippery two-tier greens, it was the kind of day where you reached for every club in the bag. And for our competitors, it was more than just a round—it was a full-body workout in the sun!
But it was the local lad, Martin Rayner, who stole the show.
Meet Our Tour Sponsor – Wilds
Huge thanks to Martin Rayner and the team at Wilds Chartered Accountants for their continued support of GBT.
🎁 All attendees received branded goodie bags, and the Nearest the Pin in Two prize was a 4-ball at Bury GC.
🎤 After dinner, we were treated to an insightful talk by Jacky from Wilds, on how to protect your pensions from unnecessary tax raids – more to follow via email!
GBT2025 Bury Winners & Results:
Winner: 🥇 Martin Rayner (Wilds) – 39 Points
He’s back!
Two-time GBT Champion Martin Rayner returned to the winner’s circle with a brilliant 39 points – and where better than his home course to remind everyone of his class?
It may have given him an edge, but make no mistake – this was a top-tier round under pressure.
Can he make the final 4? With three events to go, he’s back in the conversation.
Watch this space…
“It’s a quirky track, but that’s what makes it so enjoyable – you really have to think your way around. I love it here!” – Martin Rayner
Well played Martin and thank Bury for their wonderful hospitality.
Runner Up: 🥈 David Griffin (Release My Equity) – 38 Points
DG is on the move!
As the season heads into its business end, David Griffin is making his push. With this strong second-place finish, he jumped from 11th to 5th in the Order of Merit.
He’s now breathing down the necks of the top 4 – and nobody’s safe.
Well played and congratulations, DG!
Third Place: 🥉 Mike Birchall (BEA) – 37 Pts
Consistency is key – and Mike Birchall is the poster boy for it this season.
With another steady round, he climbs back to the top of the OOM leaderboard. If he keeps this up, he’s surely bound for Prestbury in the final four.
Great job, Mike!
Guest Winner: 🌟 Andy Bramall – 34 Points
A laste sub and a long drive, but a solid return.
Well played Andy, great round under the radar
Well played and congratulations!

Nearest the Pin Winners
Hole 1 – David Griffin
Hole 10 – Paul Johnson
Hole 14 – Mike Birchall
Hole 17 – Andy Henderson
Nearest The Pin In 2 (15th Hole) – Ken Moodie
Ken fired an absolute rocket, driving the green and finishing just inches from what was already winning the nearst the pin. It was the best drive of the day by far – an easy birdie, and just half an inch away from an eagle.

Teknobu Tiger Analysis – Bury GC Edition
Congratulations to all winners and participants for making the GBT2025 Bury event a resounding success! Bury Golf Club didn’t just test the swing—it tested stamina, patience, and hangover recovery rates. But some truly elite scoring cut through the heat, the hills, and those tricky Alister MacKenzie greens.
Let’s break it down:
With Tactical Masterclass: Martin Rayner – 39 pts
Call it home-course advantage if you want, but Martin Rayner showed the field how to plot your way around Bury. Clinical, confident, and calm under pressure. Is the two-time champ building momentum just in time? You bet he is. He’s back in the OOM mix and no one’s laughing now.
Tiger’s Prediction: Expect Martin to sneak into the final four. That quiet confidence is back.
Lurking Like a Panther: David Griffin – 38 pts
DG just doesn’t go away, does he? After a slow start to the season, he’s now the most dangerous man on the Order of Merit, jumping from 11th to 5th in one event. His short game was sharp, his mindset was focused, and his OOM leap was HUGE.
Tiger’s Prediction: DG’s consistency and hunger puts him squarely in my projected Top 4. He’s on a mission.
Mr. Reliable: Mike Birchall – 37 pts
What can you say? The man is steady as a metronome. Another round in the mid-to-high 30s, and he’s quietly grinding toward a top finish at Prestbury. No fireworks, just relentless accuracy.
Tiger’s Prediction: If you want to bet on one player making the final, it’s Birchall.
Keep an eye on this season’s consistent contenders. Teknobu Tiger will be watching closely!
